Placement Tests & English Portfolio

All new students, including those admitted to the University Honors Program, are required to take the math and foreign language placement tests as soon as possible after accepting the offer of admission at Miami.  If you plan to start a new foreign language at Miami, you do not need to take a placement test in order to start at the introductory level of a language.

Incoming domestic students for fall 2013 should take placement tests by May 7, 2013 to ensure that placement test scores are recorded and available for students' summer orientation sessions.  Placement test scores may also be used for placement in some Living Learning Community (LLC) courses.

International students need only take the math placement test (via the link below).

If you do not take the placement tests by May 7, please do so as soon as possible after that date so that your scores can be incorporated into our preparations for orientation and Living Learning Communities.

Upon completion of each placement test, print your score or record it in a safe place. Bring your placement test results with you to Orientation, particularly if you have taken the placement tests after May 7, 2013, as you may need to refer to your scores during orientation.

Please note that you will not receive academic credit for placement tests; rather, test results help you and your adviser determine the appropriate classes for you to take.
